What it does

Barcode Scanner lets you point your camera at any product barcode — EAN-13, UPC-A, Code 128, and more — and instantly decode what's in front of you. Whether you're checking a grocery item, a book ISBN, or a retail tag, the scanner reads the barcode in real time and shows you the format and the raw code, ready to copy or search. Everything runs entirely on your device: no photo is ever uploaded, no account is needed, and it works just as well in airplane mode as it does with full signal. It's completely free to use. Carbide's clean, distraction-free viewfinder keeps the laser focused on the barcode, so you can scan and move on — no app store to launch, no login wall to clear, no ads interrupting your session.

How to use the Barcode Scanner

  1. Open Barcode Scanner from the Carbide tools menu.
  2. Allow camera access when prompted — the viewfinder opens automatically.
  3. Point your camera steadily at the barcode until the laser line locks on.
  4. The decoded format and value appear instantly — tap Copy to use the code elsewhere.

Frequently asked questions

Which barcode formats does the scanner support?
It supports the most common product formats including EAN-13, EAN-8, UPC-A, UPC-E, and linear codes like Code 128 and Code 39.
Does scanning a barcode look up product information automatically?
The scanner decodes the raw barcode value instantly on your device. You can then copy it and paste it into any search engine or product database of your choice.
Does this work in poor lighting?
Yes — the scanner works under most indoor lighting conditions. If your barcode is hard to read, try steadying your hand and moving the camera slightly closer to the label.
Is the scan data saved or sent anywhere?
Nothing leaves your device. All decoding happens locally, and no scan history is uploaded to any server.
