What it does

Spirit Level uses your device's built-in accelerometer to show you exactly how level — or how tilted — any surface is. Hold or place your phone flat on a shelf, countertop, picture frame, or any surface and watch a real-time bubble indicator settle in the centre when it's perfectly horizontal. The degree reading updates continuously so you can fine-tune placement without guessing. It works in landscape and portrait orientation, and the bubble animation gives you instant, intuitive feedback. No internet, no account, and completely free — just a reliable digital spirit level you always have with you.

How to use the Spirit Level

  1. Open Spirit Level from the Measurement category.
  2. Place your device on the surface you want to check — flat side down on a horizontal surface, or edge-on for a vertical wall.
  3. Watch the bubble indicator: when it sits in the centre circle, the surface is level.
  4. Read the degree value for the precise tilt angle if the surface isn't flat.
  5. Adjust the surface until the bubble centres and the reading reaches 0.0°.

Frequently asked questions

How accurate is the spirit level?
Consumer-grade accelerometers are generally accurate to within 1–2 degrees under normal conditions. For hanging a picture or installing a shelf that's more than adequate, though it's not a replacement for a professional surveying instrument.
Can it check both horizontal and vertical surfaces?
Yes. Hold the phone flat to check horizontal surfaces (tables, floors) or hold it on its edge against a wall or door frame to check vertical alignment.
The bubble moves even when the phone is still — is something wrong?
Tiny fluctuations are normal; accelerometers always have a small amount of sensor noise. If the bubble drifts significantly on a surface you know is flat, try rebooting or check that nothing is vibrating nearby.
Does it work without an internet connection?
Yes, completely offline. Spirit Level reads the accelerometer directly — no network access is needed at any point.
