What it does
Document Scanner turns your phone camera into a portable scanner that produces clean, print-ready results. Point it at a receipt, contract, whiteboard, or any piece of paper and the tool's edge-detection algorithm automatically finds the document's borders, corrects perspective, and crops out the background. You get a sharp, well-lit image that looks nothing like a crooked phone photo. You can capture multiple pages and export them as a PDF you can share instantly, all without signing up for anything or uploading a single pixel to the cloud. It runs completely free, entirely on your device, and works offline — ideal for scanning on the go when you need a professional-quality result right now. Carbide keeps your documents private: they stay on your device until you choose to share them.
How to use the Document Scanner
- Open Document Scanner in Carbide and allow camera access.
- Frame the document in the viewfinder — the edge-detection outline appears automatically around it.
- Tap Capture when the document borders are clearly highlighted.
- Add more pages if needed, then tap Export to save or share the finished PDF.
Frequently asked questions
- Can I scan a multi-page document into one PDF?
- Yes. After capturing each page you can continue adding pages before you export, so the final PDF contains all of them in order.
- What if the edges aren't detected accurately?
- Make sure the document lies on a contrasting surface and the whole page fits in the frame. Bright, even lighting gives the edge-detection algorithm the most to work with.
- Are my scanned documents stored in the cloud?
- No. Processing happens entirely on your device and nothing is uploaded. The PDF is saved locally and only leaves your device when you explicitly share it.
- Does it work on crumpled or folded paper?
- It works best on flat surfaces. For crumpled paper, try flattening it as much as possible so the edge-detection can find clean borders.
