What it does
QR Scanner reads any QR code instantly using your phone's camera — no shutter button, no waiting, just point and it decodes. It handles URLs, plain text, Wi-Fi network codes, contact cards, email addresses, phone numbers, and more. The moment a code is recognized, the result appears on screen with the option to open it, copy it, or share it. Tap a Wi-Fi result to connect to the network without typing a password, or tap a URL to open it directly. Everything is processed on your device in real time — no image is uploaded anywhere, no account is needed, and it works fully offline. Carbide's QR Scanner is completely free and takes zero setup.
How to use the QR Scanner
- Open Carbide and tap QR Scanner from the Scanners category.
- Allow camera access when prompted.
- Point your camera at any QR code — the scanner detects and reads it automatically without tapping.
- The decoded result appears immediately — tap Open to visit a URL, Connect to join a Wi-Fi network, or Copy to copy the text.
- Tap Scan again to scan another code right away.
Frequently asked questions
- What types of QR codes can it read?
- It reads URLs, plain text, Wi-Fi credentials, vCard contacts, email addresses, phone numbers, SMS codes, geo-coordinates, and most other standard QR payload types.
- Does it work on damaged or partially obscured codes?
- QR codes include built-in error-correction data, so the scanner can often decode codes that are slightly torn, dirty, or rotated. Very heavily damaged codes may not be readable.
- Is it safe to scan unknown QR codes?
- The scanner shows you the decoded content before you act on it. Always review the URL or text before tapping Open so you can spot suspicious or unexpected links.
- Does the scanner upload the image or the QR content anywhere?
- No. The camera feed is processed entirely on your device in real time. Nothing is sent to a server — not the image, not the decoded data, and not any log of what you scanned.
