What is the VAT Calculator tool?

This VAT calculator splits any price into its net, tax and gross parts using the rate you set. Pick a direction and type one number: in Add VAT mode the amount you enter is the net (pre-tax) price and the tool adds tax on top to give the gross; in Remove VAT mode the amount is the gross (tax-inclusive) price and the tool works backwards to reveal the net and the tax already baked in. It handles VAT, GST and general sales tax the same way — the maths is identical, only the rate changes.

Common rates are one tap away — 5, 10, 14, 15 and 20 percent — or you can type any custom rate, so it fits UK VAT at 20%, UAE and Saudi VAT at 5% and 15%, Egypt's 14% and dozens of US and international sales-tax rates. Everything recalculates the instant you change the amount, the rate or the direction, and the result shows the tax as the headline figure with the net and gross broken out underneath so you can copy or share the full split.

It runs entirely in your browser: your numbers are never uploaded, no account is needed, and once the page has loaded it keeps working offline. Treat the result as a quick estimate — real invoices may round each line differently and local tax rules vary, so check the exact rate and rounding that apply to you before filing anything official.

How to use the VAT Calculator

  1. Choose a direction: Add VAT (amount is the net price) or Remove VAT (amount is the tax-inclusive price).
  2. Type the amount — the label tells you whether it is treated as net or gross.
  3. Set the tax rate: tap a preset (5, 10, 14, 15, 20%) or type any custom percentage.
  4. Read the VAT amount as the headline figure, with the net and gross shown underneath.
  5. Copy or share the full net / tax / gross breakdown.

Frequently asked questions

How do I add VAT to a price?

Choose Add VAT, enter the net (pre-tax) amount and set the rate. The tool multiplies the amount by the rate to get the tax, then adds it on to give the gross price. For example, 100 plus 15% VAT is 15 tax and 115 gross.

How do I remove VAT from a total?

Choose Remove VAT and enter the gross (tax-inclusive) amount. The tool divides by 1 plus the rate to recover the net price, and the difference is the tax. For 115 at 15%, the net is 100 and the VAT already included is 15.

What VAT rate should I use?

It depends on your country and the goods or service. The presets cover common rates — 20% (UK), 15% (Saudi Arabia and others), 14% (Egypt), 10% and 5% (UAE and reduced rates) — and you can type any custom rate for local sales tax.

Does this work for GST or sales tax too?

Yes. VAT, GST and general sales tax are all a percentage added to or included in a price, so the same add and remove maths applies — just enter your local rate.

Is my data private?

Yes. The calculation runs entirely in your browser. Your amounts are never sent to a server, no sign-up is required, and the tool keeps working offline once the page has loaded.
