What it does

Flashlight turns your device's camera flash or screen into a bright, steady light source with a single tap — no fumbling through settings, no app to download. Whether you need to find something in a dark room, read a label in low light, or guide yourself through a power cut, it's ready the moment you open it. You can switch between torch mode (using your rear flash) and screen light mode, which floods your display with white to use it as a soft fill light. Strobe and SOS patterns are also available for signalling situations. Everything runs locally on your device, works fully offline, and is completely free with no sign-up required. Carbide keeps the interface clean and instant so the light comes on fast — exactly when you need it.

How to use the Flashlight

  1. Open Flashlight in Carbide — the torch turns on immediately.
  2. Choose between Torch (camera flash), Screen Light (white display), Strobe, or SOS mode using the mode selector.
  3. Adjust the brightness slider if you need more or less intensity.
  4. Tap the main button again or close the tool to turn the light off.

Frequently asked questions

Will Flashlight drain my battery quickly?
The camera flash uses relatively little power for short bursts. Screen light mode uses more because it keeps the display on at full brightness, so it's best used briefly.
Does it work on devices that don't have a rear flash?
Yes. On devices without a rear flash, Flashlight automatically switches to screen light mode, which floods the display with white light.
What is SOS mode for?
SOS mode flashes the internationally recognised distress signal (three short, three long, three short) — useful in emergency signalling situations.
Does Flashlight need an internet connection?
No. It works entirely offline using your device's own camera and display hardware.
