Set a countdown timer with an alarm for any task.

What it does

Countdown Timer is a free, browser-based timer with an alarm that works completely offline — nothing installed, nothing stored on a server. Set your duration by entering hours, minutes, and seconds, or tap one of the quick-start presets (1, 3, 5, 10, or 25 minutes) to get going immediately. A visual progress ring shrinks as time runs down so you can see at a glance how much is left. When the countdown reaches zero, an alarm fires directly in your browser tab. You can pause and resume at any point without losing your remaining time, and reset resets everything for the next task. Because the timer runs on your device, it is completely private — great for focused work sessions, cooking, workouts, or any task that benefits from a hard deadline.

How to use the Countdown Timer

  1. Type your desired duration using the hours, minutes, and seconds fields, or tap one of the quick-start presets (1, 3, 5, 10, or 25 minutes).
  2. Press Start to begin the countdown. A progress indicator shows how much time remains visually.
  3. Press Pause at any point to freeze the remaining time without resetting it, then press Resume to continue.
  4. When the timer reaches zero, an alarm sounds in your browser. Press Reset to clear the timer and set a new duration.

Frequently asked questions

What is the maximum duration I can set?
You can set up to 99 hours, 59 minutes, and 59 seconds in a single countdown — more than four days — so it covers virtually any task.
Will the alarm sound if I switch to another tab while the timer is running?
The countdown continues accurately in the background because it uses the real system clock rather than counting ticks. Whether the alarm audio fires in an inactive tab depends on your browser's autoplay policy; for the most reliable alert, keep the tab visible or turn your system volume up.
Can I change the duration while the timer is already running?
Pause the timer first, then adjust the hours, minutes, or seconds fields and press Start again. The timer will begin a fresh countdown from the new duration.
Does the timer save my settings between visits?
No. The timer defaults to 5 minutes on each visit. Nothing is stored between sessions, keeping the tool fully private.
