What is the Date Difference tool?

This calculator counts the days between two dates — plus the same gap expressed in weeks and months, and a full years/months/days breakdown — the moment you pick the two dates. How many days until the wedding, how long a contract has been running, how many weeks to the deadline: one view answers all of it, and it does not matter which date you enter first.

The counting is precise. Dates are compared at midnight, so daylight-saving changes never shift the count, and the days figure is exact whole days — from the 1st to the 2nd of a month is 1 day. That count is exclusive of the end date, like counting the nights of a stay; add one when you want both endpoints included. Months are counted the calendar way, so the varying lengths of months and leap years are respected rather than approximated with 30-day months.

It runs entirely in your browser: instant, free, no sign-up, and nothing you enter is sent anywhere — it keeps working offline once the page has loaded. Compared with the dense, desktop-era date sites, this date difference calculator is deliberately phone-first: two date pickers, one clear result. And if what you are really computing is an age, Carbide's age calculator adds total days lived and a next-birthday countdown on top of the same math.

How to use the Date Difference

  1. Pick the start date.
  2. Pick the end date — order doesn't matter, the gap is the same both ways.
  3. Read the total days, weeks and months between the two dates.
  4. Check the breakdown line for the exact years, months and days.
  5. To count down to an event, set today as the first date and the event as the second.

Frequently asked questions

How many days until my event?

Set today as the first date and the event as the second — the days figure is your countdown. It updates instantly if you change either date.

Is the end date included in the count?

No — the calculator counts elapsed days between the two midnights, so the 1st to the 2nd is 1 day, like counting hotel nights. If you want both endpoints included (days of a trip), add one to the result.

Can it count business days only?

Not yet — it counts calendar days, weeks and months. As a rough weekday estimate you can take the weeks figure × 5, but that ignores public holidays, which vary by country.

How are months counted between two dates?

The calendar way: a month is counted only when the same day-of-month has been reached again, so January 15 to March 14 is 1 month and 27 days, not 2 months. Leap years are handled the same way.

Is what I enter private?

Yes. Both dates are processed in your browser and never sent or stored anywhere, and the tool works offline once the page has loaded.

Is the date difference calculator free?

Yes — free, with no sign-up and no limit on how many date pairs you check.

How is this different from timeanddate.com?

timeanddate offers extras like business-day rules and holiday calendars, at the cost of a dense desktop layout. This tool answers the core question — days, weeks, months and the exact breakdown — on a faster page built for phones. For workday arithmetic with holidays, their calculator is still the deeper option.
