Stopwatch

WEB

A precise stopwatch with lap times that keeps running in your browser.

00:00.00

What is the Stopwatch tool?

This online stopwatch measures time to the centisecond and keeps a lap list as you go — press start and the display counts up in minutes, seconds and hundredths. Tap lap to record a split without stopping the clock: each row shows that lap's own time alongside the running total, newest first. It runs entirely in your browser with no download and no sign-up, nothing about your timing is sent anywhere, and the large, clean display reads easily on a phone held in one hand.

Accuracy comes from how the elapsed time is measured. Instead of counting screen updates — which browsers slow down in inactive tabs — the stopwatch anchors to your device's high-precision clock and computes the elapsed time from it. Switch to another tab mid-workout and come back: the reading is exactly right. Pause and resume as often as you need; reset clears the clock and the lap list for a fresh run.

Use it as a lap timer for interval training and track sessions, a study timer for focus sprints, or a plain stopwatch for cooking, speedcubing and presentation run-throughs. It is a free online stopwatch with none of the dated clutter of older timing sites. And when you need to count down instead of up — a fixed ten minutes rather than an open-ended run — Carbide's countdown timer is the companion tool built for exactly that.

How to use the Stopwatch

  1. Press «Start» — the display counts up with centisecond precision.
  2. Tap «Lap» to record a split; the list shows each lap's own time and the cumulative total.
  3. Press the pause button to hold the clock, and press it again to resume.
  4. Switch tabs freely — the stopwatch keeps accurate time while you are away.
  5. Press «Reset» to clear the time and the laps and start again.

Frequently asked questions

Does the online stopwatch keep running if I switch tabs?

Yes. The elapsed time is computed from your device's high-precision clock, not from screen updates, so backgrounding the tab does not lose time. Come back at any point and the reading is correct.

How accurate is it?

The display shows hundredths of a second, and the value is derived from the browser's high-resolution clock, so it does not drift the way tick-counting timers can. For everyday timing — sport, study, cooking — that is more precision than you can react to by hand.

Can I record laps and split times?

Yes. Tap lap while the clock runs to log a split without stopping. Each entry shows the lap's own duration and the cumulative time at that moment, with the newest lap on top.

What is the difference between a stopwatch and a countdown timer?

A stopwatch counts up from zero for open-ended timing — you stop it when the activity ends. A countdown timer counts down from a fixed duration and alerts you when time is up. For the second case, use Carbide's countdown timer with its built-in alarm.

What happens if I close or refresh the page?

The stopwatch resets — the running time and laps are not stored anywhere. Keep the tab open while timing, and note down lap times you want to keep before leaving the page.

Is it free? Do I need an account or a download?

Completely free — no account, no sign-up, no download. It works in any modern browser on phone, tablet or desktop.

Is my timing data uploaded anywhere?

No. The stopwatch runs entirely on your device; times and laps exist only on your screen and are never transmitted.
