What is RTT?

Round-trip time: how long a small piece of data takes to travel to a server and back, in milliseconds. Low RTT is what makes pages, calls and games feel responsive. The value here is the browser's running estimate from recent traffic — for an active measurement against a specific host, use the ping test.

What does "effective connection type 4g" mean?

It is the browser's classification of your connection quality based on recently observed speed and latency — not the radio you are on. Wi-Fi and fibre report 4g too, because 4g is simply the top bucket (the scale runs slow-2g, 2g, 3g, 4g). Seeing 3g on a fibre line means the browser is currently observing poor performance.

Why do these values differ from a speed test?

Because they are passive estimates, not measurements. The browser infers downlink and RTT from whatever traffic recently happened, and caps the downlink value it reports, while a speed test actively pushes data to measure real capacity.
