What is the Gold Calculator tool?
This gold calculator tells you what your gold is actually worth: enter the weight in grams, pick the karat — 24K, 22K, 21K, 18K, 14K or lower — and add the jeweller's making charge if there is one, and it shows the metal value and the total in your local currency at today's live rate. A sell/buy toggle switches between what a shop would charge you and what a buyer would pay for the same piece, so you can sanity-check a quote from either side of the counter.
The math is the standard market formula, shown transparently in the breakdown: metal value = the live per-gram price × weight × (karat ÷ 24), and the total adds the making charge percentage on top. The per-gram price comes from the world gold rate converted to your currency at the current exchange rate — the same numbers as the gold prices page — so a 5-gram 21K ring is valued from the exact rate a dealer starts from.
Most English scrap-gold calculators price in US dollars only, and many Arabic ones skip the making charge; this one handles both — including المصنعية — for any country. Frequently asked questions
How is the value of gold calculated?
Metal value = per-gram price × weight × (karat ÷ 24). The per-gram price is the world rate for pure gold converted to your currency, and the karat fraction scales it to your piece's purity — 21K is 87.5%, 18K is 75%. The total then adds the making charge, which is how a jeweller's invoice is built.
What is the making charge, and do I get it back when I sell?
The making charge (المصنعية) is the workmanship fee a jeweller adds per gram or as a percentage over the metal value. It is not refunded when you sell — buyers pay for the metal content only, which is why the calculator shows the metal value separately from the total you would pay.
Why is the buy-back price lower than what I paid?
Two reasons: the dealer's spread between sell and buy rates, and the making charge you paid on top of the metal, which disappears at resale. Toggle the calculator to the buy side to see the realistic resale value of a piece before you negotiate.
Can I calculate the value of 21K gold?
Yes — 21K is the default, since it is the market standard in Egypt and much of the region. Every common karat is a tap away: 24K, 22K, 21K, 18K, 14K and lower, each valued by its exact pure-gold fraction.
Are the prices live — where do they come from?
The calculator fetches the current world gold rate and exchange rate from live market data sources each time the page loads, the same feed as the gold prices page. Shop quotes add local premiums, so treat the result as the fair metal reference, not a guaranteed invoice.
Is what I enter private?
Yes. The weight, karat and making charge you type are processed in your browser and never transmitted or stored — the only network traffic is fetching the live gold price, which carries nothing about you.
